A staff member of our Institute, Prof. Michał Strzelecki, delivered a seminar for the staff and students of the Department of Geometry at the University of Lodz entitled “Large Language Models in Supporting Scientific Research - Hope, Reality, or a Trap?”
During the presentation, the possibilities and limitations of artificial intelligence and large language models (LLMs) in scientific research were discussed 🧠💻. The seminar covered, among others:
🔹 the use of AI in literature reviews and scientific writing,
🔹 support for programming and research analysis,
🔹 the problem of hallucinations in language models,
🔹 applications of AI in medicine and image analysis,
🔹 ethical, legal, and scientific responsibility issues related to the use of AI.
The seminar emphasized that AI can be a valuable tool supporting scientific research 📈, but it requires a conscious and critical approach, as well as continuous human verification of results.
This was an important contribution to the discussion on the future of scientific research in the era of generative artificial intelligence 🤖
